Gujarat Titans defeat Mumbai Indians by 55 runs, reach second spot on points table

Gujarat Titans on Tuesday defeated Mumbai Indians by 55 runs and claimed the second spot on the points table. With 10 points, GT is just below Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The GT vs MI match was totally one-sided with Mumbai performing terribly at both batting and bowling.

Shubman Gill displayed his magic again and scored a well-crafted 56 runs off 34 balls. David Miller played an outstanding innings of 46 runs off 22 balls, while Rahul Tewatia was also in excellent form and scored an unbeaten 20 runs in just five balls. Abhinav Manohar joined forces with Miller and together they contributed a crucial partnership of 71 runs for the fifth wicket, with Manohar scoring 42 runs off just 21 deliveries.

Arjun Tendulkar had a positive start to his bowling spell, as he gave away only four runs in the first over, following the decision of his captain, Rohit Sharma, to bowl first after winning the toss.

Mumbai Indians did not have to wait for an extended period to achieve their first success in the game. Wriddhiman Saha, while trying to play a pull shot, failed to make contact with the ball properly, resulting in an edge that was comfortably taken by the wicketkeeper. This happened in the very first ball of the third over, which was bowled by Arjun Tendulkar.

Mumbai Indians started shaky with skipper Rohit Sharma walking back to the pavilion during the second over. Mohammed Shami kept his bowling and didn’t let the MI batsman move much ground. Cameron Green opened his arms with a six, but soon Rashid Khand struck and Ishan Kishan was gone.

Tilak Verma followed Kishan in the same over and MI was 45/3 in 8 overs. The dangerous Cameron Green was tamed by Noor Ahmad and the hopes of MI fans kept fading. The wickets continued falling and the gap between the balls and runs kept increasing.

The team struggled till the last wicket and finally, it was over Gujarat Titans won the match was 55 runs.
